Hello!

As part of my BodyRespect journey, I am committed to nurturing a positive relationship with food.   One that is flexible and responsive and reflects Ellyn Satter’s definition of ‘normal eating‘, This is a revolutionary approach to food which acknowledges (without judgement) that sometimes we end up being a being a bit over-full, not quite full or eating for reason that aren’t just about hunger.  Eating normally sometimes means celebration is involved, or the need for comfort.   And remembering *all* foods are permissible, belying some kind of allergy or religious/moral issues.

A few years ago I first read Intuitive Eating by Tribole & Resch and found their approach to be quite helpful (if you can, grab a copy or look for info on their website).  My stress around eating has decreased and for the most part I feel positive about my food choices. Lately I’ve been feeling like it is time to revisit Intuitive Eating in-depth and refresh my relationship with food.

So, I would like to invite you to join me this summer as I explore each of the 10 principles of Intuitive Eating and discuss how we can bring each of these more fully into our day to day lives.  For the next 10 weeks (starting tomorrow!) I will share information about each of the principles, reflect on my own experience with integrating the principle in my life and share ideas/links to support our efforts to become Intuitive Eaters.

To get each post, check out my blog, sign up for my e-bulletin, follow me on Facebook or Twitter.  Share your experiences of  Intuitive Eating on social media using the #summerofintuitiveeating hashtag.

A Word of Caution – if you are doing any follow up research/googling  on ‘intuitive eating’,  be aware there are folks out there who have co-opted the intuitive/mindful eating language, for their diet/weight loss programs.  If you find someone who is promising you will lose weight by  adopting an intuitive eating approach to food, their program is *not* intuitive eating, it is a diet.

Here’s to an awesome summer, full of food and fun.

Cheers,
Sydney
