The Transformational Power of Reclaiming Body Sovereignty

When we think of transformation and the body, we have been conditioned to immediately think about how we can change our body. Whether we feel we need to lose weight, gain weight, sculpt, tone or condition, …it is hard not to live in our society and be compelled to try and change our body in some way. To succumb to the pressured to try and make our body look a certain way. I believe this crisis of modern life has done a lot of damage to our sense of self, and to our ability to meet our self-care needs in a healthy and holistic way.

The belief that we need to change our body to be healthy and happy fosters deep fear and body dissatisfaction. We experience shame because we believe if our body does not live up the ideal, it is because of something we are doing wrong. Or worse, that there is something intrinsically wrong with us, that we a flawed people.

The good news is we can change how we view transformation when it comes to body and turn the belief we need to change our body in on its head. Instead, we can choose to transform how we relate to our body. The thoughts we have, how we assess our self-worth and opening our eyes to the beauty of diversity. We can reclaim our Body Sovereignty and transform:

Body Hatred to Body Peace
Body Fear to Body Trust
Body Shame to Body Respect

In Reclaiming Body Sovereignty, we use the tools of Self-Compassion, Mindfulness and Discernment to help us manifest these transformational changes. Turning to our pain with compassion, nurturing non-judgemental self-awareness and opening our eyes to the cultural influences around us bring us to a place of power with our body. A place where we can self determine how we experience our body, how we care for our body and claim space in the world. We take care of health and wellbeing from a place of love and positive self-regard instead of self-loathing. We let go of expectations of how our body will look as a result of self-care, and instead focus on how our body feels and how it functions for us.

Truly transformational.
